Gnomes are known for their creativity and inventiveness. They are an energetic race of small folk who's population spend much of their time exploring every aspect of their world and attempting to revolutionize whatever path they follow in life. From a young age Gnomes are encourage to explore art, beginning with drawing and coloring, to aid in sharing ideas and drafting solutions to their problems.
Magery 0
This is basic “magical awareness,” a prerequisite for learning magic. The GM makes a Sense roll when you first see a magic item, and again when you first touch it. On a success, you intuitively know that the item is magical. A roll of 3 or 4 also tells you whether the magic is helpful or dangerous, and about how strong it is. Those without Magery do not get this roll!
Talent: Artificer 1
You have a natural aptitude for a set of closely related skills. “Talents” come in levels, and give the following benefits:
• A bonus of +1 with all affected skills, even for default use. This effectively raises your attribute scores for the purpose of those skills only.
• A bonus of +1 on all reaction rolls made by anyone in a position to notice your Talent, if they would be impressed by your aptitude (GM’s judgment). To receive this bonus, you must demonstrate your Talent – most often by using the affected skills.
• A reduction in the time required to learn the affected skills in play, regardless of how you learn them. Reduce the time required by 10%, you would let you learn Artificer-related skills in 90% the usual time. This has no effect on the point cost of your skills.
Affected Skills include: Armory, Carpentry, Electrician, Engineer, Machinist, Masonry, Mechanic, and Smith. Reaction bonus: anyone you do work for.
Versatile
You are extremely imaginative. You get a +1 bonus on any task that requires creativity or invention, including most rolls against Artist skill, all Engineer rolls for new inventions, and all skill rolls made to use the Gadgeteer advantage.
Tinkerer
Gnomes have an innate inquisitiveness that leads them to explore and invent with more enthusiasm that and regularity than other races. Gnomes receive a +1 bonus to any default IQ skill rolls made to interact with machinery or enchantments.
Curious (Self-Control 12)
Gnomes are naturally inquisitive people.
This is not the curiosity that affects all PCs, this means you need to know the why and the how of things, it leads you to investigate, to take apart... to push the button.
Make a self-control roll when presented with an interesting item or situation. If you fail, you examine it; push buttons, pull levers, open doors, unwrap presents, etc. – even if you know it could be dangerous. Good roleplayers won’t try to make this roll very often . . .
In general, you do everything in your power to investigate any situation with which you aren’t 100% familiar. When faced with a real mystery, you simply cannot turn your back on it. You try to rationalize your curiosity to others who try to talk you out of it. Common Sense doesn’t help - you know you are taking a risk, but you’re curious anyway!
