Pathayā

Pathayā is primarily depicted as a cloaked and hooded traveler.  His face is often obscured though he is know to appear as a middle aged asian man, carrying a walking stick or staff and a satchel. His cloak depicts a map of the world, with roads and rivers shifting across its surface. At times Pathayā is seen in animal form, they appear as a migratory bird carrying a messenger pouch or a sure-footed goat with a pack. Pathayā is patient, curious, and ever-moving. They encourage mortals to seek new horizons, embrace change, and learn from every journey. Pathayā is a guide to the lost and a companion to the lonely, but also a trickster who tests travelers with unexpected detours.  

• Worship: Merchants, explorers, runners, messengers, and anyone embarking on a journey pray to Pathayātrin for safe passage and guidance. Shrines are found at crossroads, city gates, and waystations. Priests of Pathayā are known wanderers, making frequent pilgrimages to local shrines to maintain them and offering assistance to those in need they come across on the road.

• Offerings:  Travelers leave coins, or small tokens at crossroads or shrines before a journey.  In more rural areas people often leave a stone as they pass, creating large piles in Pathayā’s honor.  Stories of travels and discoveries are shared at communal gatherings in Pathayātrin’s honor.

• Celebrations:  The Day of Departures is celebrated at the start of the travel season. Communities gather to share food, stories, and blessings for those setting out on new ventures. It is customary to give gifts to travelers and to host feasts for returning wanderers.
